Green Tea Extract (Camellia sinensis)

Green tea’s catechins — particularly EGCG — are among the most extensively studied antioxidant compounds in supplement science. In a randomised, placebo-controlled crossover trial, regular intake of green tea catechins was shown to offer protection against oxidation-induced DNA damage and decreased markers of oxidative stress in healthy adults. Human research has also demonstrated that green tea catechins are rapidly incorporated into LDL particles in the bloodstream, making the LDL cholesterol itself significantly more resistant to oxidative damage — a mechanism directly linked to supporting long-term cardiovascular health.

Acai Extract (Euterpe oleracea)

Acai berry consistently ranks among the highest natural sources of antioxidant capacity, and human trials back up the lab numbers. In a randomised crossover clinical trial, four weeks of daily acai juice significantly increased total antioxidant capacity by 66.7% and boosted the activity of the body’s own antioxidant enzymes — catalase by 275% and glutathione peroxidase by over 15% — while reducing a key marker of oxidative stress by more than half. A separate double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in overweight adults found daily acai pulp significantly reduced 8-isoprostane, a marker of lipid peroxidation, versus placebo.

Red Wine Extract from Grape (Vitis vinifera)

Red wine extract owes much of its antioxidant reputation to resveratrol, concentrated in grape skins, and the proanthocyanidins found alongside it. Research shows these compounds are potent scavengers of free radicals and significantly reduce lipid peroxidation, with resveratrol shown to scavenge cellular reactive oxygen species and help correct radical-induced DNA damage. Studies have also found that resveratrol’s antioxidant activity works best in combination with the other natural polyphenols present in red wine extract, rather than in isolation — supporting the case for a full-spectrum grape extract over an isolated compound.

Extract of Pomegranate

Pomegranate is one of the richest dietary sources of polyphenols, and its antioxidant effects are well demonstrated in human trials. A randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in adults with type 2 diabetes found 12 weeks of pomegranate juice significantly increased total antioxidant capacity and decreased malondialdehyde, a key marker of lipid peroxidation, compared to placebo. A broader systematic review and meta-analysis of clinical trials confirmed pomegranate supplementation significantly increases glutathione peroxidase and total antioxidant capacity in the body.

Mangosteen

Mangosteen’s xanthone compounds have some of the most direct human clinical evidence in this entire formula. A randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial found that a single dose of a xanthone-rich mangosteen product increased plasma antioxidant capacity by more than 16% within just one hour, with elevated antioxidant levels lasting at least four hours. A follow-up 30-day randomised controlled trial in 60 healthy adults found daily mangosteen consumption produced 15% greater antioxidant capacity in the bloodstream compared to placebo, with no adverse effects on liver or kidney function.

Black Cherry

Black and tart cherries are rich in anthocyanins, the pigment compounds responsible for their deep colour and much of their antioxidant punch — a natural fit for a hardcore training formula. Research in athletes has shown tart cherry’s polyphenol content helps counter the oxidative stress and inflammation triggered by intense exercise, with one trial in marathon runners finding tart cherry juice enhanced total antioxidant status while reducing post-race inflammatory markers. Multiple resistance-exercise trials have linked tart cherry supplementation to measurably reduced oxidative stress markers following heavy training sessions.

Grape Skin

Grape skin is where the Vitis vinifera plant concentrates its most potent antioxidant defences, including resveratrol and proanthocyanidins, compounds researchers have specifically identified as the source of red wine’s cardioprotective antioxidant profile. Studies show these grape skin-derived proanthocyanidins act as potent free-radical scavengers capable of inhibiting the oxidation of LDL cholesterol in the arterial wall, supporting the case for grape skin extract as a targeted, concentrated antioxidant addition to the formula.
